Hey guys, I headed down to Nacogdoches and at my seminar, who walked in, Steve, man was he great to meet. We had lunch, I said my piece to the group and we headed for his place. He has a really beautiful country style home deep in the piney woods and man is it nice. Here it is Here Steve is playing that awesome Ambrosia guitar, and man did it sound awesome, and he can pick His work is as clean and tight as I have seen, I was really impressed with his binding and appointment work, here is a shot of that Bloodwood binding......really nice He just got back from the GAL Convention, and the Zoot he had purchased while there had arrived and it was some really nice wood, he and I both are pretty sick about collecting beautiful wood and man did he score some on the trip. Here as a sampling I was having so much fun visiting with Steve, I failed to photo all the rest and nice sound boards as well. We ventured up to his shop and out to his high Dust area in his garage. Zoot, Zoot and more Zoot out in the garage, then upstairs in the build room, man it was really nice. He has some great jigs, and a number of guitars in progress and man o man is his work and workspace nice. Here are a few shots I left at around 4:30 and really enjoyed visiting with Steve, he is one fine guy and we plan to get together more often. We did do a little discussing on the OLF South "Rumble in the Jungle". Steve and his wife are going to come up and we are going to head up to our Ranch which is further north and more centrally located for a potential gathering spot. Closer to Arkansas and Oklahoma. We will keep all of you guys updated after he sees the place and we will stay in touch. I want to thank Steve for his hospitality and look forward to seeing him again soon. Mike White Oak, Texas |

Thanks for posting, Mike. Nice place, Steve. Say, what's with the stealth blackjack next to the vise? Protection against rogue WAS addicts? ![]() |

Hey Mike, thanks for the kind words! It was a blast meeting you and hanging around together. (I'll say this, Mike is a master gardener, and one of the nation's most recognized authorities on water gardening. Right here in East Texas--how 'bout that? He was giving a lecture to the Nacogdoches area Master Gardeners association. Very interesting...I now want some Koi fish [sp?].) Here's Mike's pretty face, as viewed from our living room: ![]() I'm afraid Mike caught me at a rather messy time, with lots of clutter everywhere. But he was gracious in his comments anyway. Carlton--that "blackjack" you see is not for self defense. (Though now you've put an idea in my head....) It's a bag filled with shot, covered with that sock to cushion a neck while fretting. The mass helps when hammering in frets. I'll say this, OLF visits are a lot of fun--it's great to meet you guys face to face! Thanks again, Mike. Steve |
